Of Guilds, Growing Up and Saving the World: Macky Reads The Adventurers Guild

The Adventurers Guild book cover
Meet Brock and Zed, two best friends growing up in one of the last safe and free havens in a world ravaged by monsters (called "dangers"). Brock is merchant-born, while Zed is a half elf-born to a serving woman. On the auspicious “Guild Culling” day, where all the young people with no guilds are selected for apprenticeship, they find themselves drafted by one Alabasel Frond, who leads the city’s Adventurers Guild.

From there, a very unique and well-written story unfolds in an equally unique and well-written world. This is grade A world-building we are talking about here, folks. And this story falls square in the middle of the kind of books I absolutely love - the kind where "me and my friends go on an adventure and save the world"! (Or do their best to do right by their city anyway.) And it’s got great lore and brilliant characters that come alive. (I don’t even mind the elves. Yes, I am notorious for not liking stories with elves built into the mythos. So far, only Eragon and now the Adventurers Guild are the only ones that come to mind that I can stand.)

What’s cute is that this book is co-authored by a pair of best friends, Zack Loran Cark and Nick Eliopulos, who I’m sure have managed to inform the bond between Brock and Zed with their own. It’s their first novel and I absolutely cannot wait for them to write the next one! (Seriously, that’s the one disadvantage when it comes to reading advanced copies. You get to wait longer for the next book than the rest of the people who will read the book when it’s released.) Anyway, if you want an absolutely brilliant adventure, grab your copy of The Adventurers Guild.
