About Me

I'm Alexa, a twenty-something currently living in  the beautiful, magical, incredible city of New York, and I read obsessively (no joke!). I read every chance I get, whether it's five minutes while waiting for the subway to arrive, or on long car trips to another state. I collect new books and old books like it's nobody's business, which makes for an extremely large stack of unread books in my apartment. Thing is, I wouldn't have it any other way!

I grew up with a passion for reading, because my parents did their best to instill it in me. My mom would read to me when I was still in her tummy; that didn't change once I was brought into the world. One of my favorite home videos of all time shows me at around a year old with an enormous pile of Dr. Seuss books that I'm asking my mom to read to me. Even then, I was fascinated by words on the page and, as my mom recounts, always knew if she tried to skip ahead. I'm sure that, many years and many books later, my parents are just now realizing how book-crazy I turned out to be.

I like being obsessed with books. They provide an escape, they teach me new things and they definitely keep me entertained. While I'm sure my wallet is not too happy about how much I spend on books, I definitely consider it a worthwhile investment, as I'm building up my library for the future.

Apart from reading books and blogging about them, I like to write. I started out writing fan fiction for my friends when I was in the sixth grade, and I've been hooked since then. Though many of my earlier works are definitely not seeing the light of day, I've been constantly honing my craft and attempting to finish my first full novel ever since.

Travel is another one of my interests. I don't get to do it nearly enough, but whenever I see an opportunity arise, I take it. There's something magical about visiting a different place, especially when you get the opportunity to learn about their history and their culture. My favorite country that I've visited so far has to be Japan; in the future, I look forward to visiting England, specifically London.

I'm married! I got married to the love of my life last September 8, 2013 -- and it was magical. The wedding turned out to be more beautiful, meaningful and lovely than I could have ever imagined. It was one of the best moments of this entire year, and I could not be more grateful.

Other important things you need to know about me:
  • I love to eat, especially if it's dessert. I could eat cookies, ice cream, cupcakes, cake, pie and macarons all the time. My sweet tooth is obviously enlarged.
  • Music speaks to me nearly as much as books do. I may have very predictable tastes (hello pop music!), but I'm actually starting to branch out into other musical genres. Currently, I'm obsessed with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Script, Imagine Dragons, Demi Lovato, One Direction, Westlife, and Ariana Grande.
  • When I do catch stuff on TV, I enjoy the Disney Channel. Other shows I'm obsessed with include: The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Once Upon a Time, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory and Friends. I'm also starting to love 2 Broke Girls.
  • I'm slowly turning into a coffee addict. Most mornings, I am not fully awake until I've had a cup. I'm also developing a taste for tea, particularly Lady Grey tea, which is amazing.
  • Authors I love include C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, Rick Riordan, Tamora Pierce, Sarah Dessen, Stephanie Perkins, Maggie Stiefvater, Sarah MacLean, Julie Garwood,  Julia Quinn, Marissa Meyer, Jodi Meadows, Sarah J. Maas, Susan Dennard, Diana Peterfreund, Samantha Shannon, Jessi Kirby, Morgan Matson & Veronica Roth.
  • My favorite series of all time is the Harry Potter series, followed closely by The Chronicles of Narnia. Obviously, I highly recommend them both. I also really love the Throne of Glass series, Something Strange & Deadly series, the Newsoul series and The Lunar Chronicles.
  • These days, I usually read my books on the subway, during my lunch break, on the couch or in my bed. But I try to squeeze reading time whenever I can.

  3. Hello Alexa, my name is Rachell Morton. I am 13 years old. Recently I got awarded “best selling author” on Amazon.com. And I would like to share my book with all of you. It is called: “Margay Stuck on the Tree”. Please write a review and rate. I would really appreciate the feedback. It is for ages 4-6 and perfect for teaching young children how to face their fears. This is the first book of my Margay Life Lessons series. Would you please promote my upcoming series on your blog? Stay tuned for the next ones. :)

And if it is inappropriate for me to post here, I am sorry about that.
