Tunes & Tales: Native

The inspiration to feature a One Republic album for the last Tunes & Tales of this year came to me on our drive home from Thanksgiving in Connecticut. One of their songs came on when we switched up our Pandora station, and it reminded me of how much I love their music! Native is the album that means the most to me, because it reminds me of when my sister & Mel got to see them perform at the most epic summer concert experience I've ever had. Anyway, I really love this album, and I am excited to share my song and book pairings!

VIBE: pop rock songs with catchy beats
WHY: I've always found their songs to be the type that stay stuck in my head for days, and obviously, in a good way.
TRY: I Lived is by far my favorite song on this album, because it's so inspiring!

Counting Stars / Diplomatic Immunity
I feel something so right by doing the wrong thing
And I feel something so wrong by doing the right thing
I could lie, couldn't I, couldn't I?
Every thing that kills me makes me feel alive
Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
Baby, I've been, I've been praying hard
Said no more counting dollars, we'll be counting stars

Love Runs Out / As I Descended
I got my mind made up, man, I can't let go.
I'm killing every second 'til it saves my soul.
(Ooh) I'll be running, (Ooh) I'll be running,
'Til the love runs out, 'til the love runs out.
And we'll start a fire, and we'll shut it down,
'Til the love runs out, 'til the love runs out.

If I Lose Myself / Just One Year
I stared up at the sun,
Thought of all of the people, places and things I’ve loved.
I stared up just to see
With all of the faces, you were the one next to me.
You can feel the light start to tremble,
Washing what you know out to sea.
You can see your life out of the window tonight.
If I lose myself tonight,
It’ll be by your side.

It's been a long time coming since I've seen your face
I've been everywhere and back trying to replace
Everything that I had 'til my feet went numb
Praying like a fool that's been on the run
Heart's still beating but it's not working
It's like a million dollar phone that you just can't ring
I reached out trying to love but I feel nothing
Yeah, my heart is numb
But with you
I feel again

What You Wanted / Ignite Me
I'll put your poison in my veins
They say the best love is insane, yeah
I'll light your fire till my last day
I'll let your fields burn around me, around me
If that's what you wanted

I Lived / Me Before You
Hope when you take that jump, you don't fear the fall
Hope when the water rises, you built a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out, they're screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay
Hope that you fall in love, and it hurts so bad
The only way you can know is give it all you have
And I hope that you don't suffer but take the pain
Hope when the moment comes, you'll say...
I, I did it all

Light It Up / The Goal
I could light it up for you
We ain't got a shot to lose
Put it on but fade it out
Tell you that you weren't enough
Acting like your favourite drug
Raise a cup
We can light it up

I guess this is what it's supposed to feel like
No, we don't talk, no, we don't talk, we don't talk anymore.
I guess this is what it's supposed to sound like
The universe, the universe, universe is torn.
I don't want to live without you
I can't live without you half the day
I don't want to live without you
And put life off for another day

Au Revoir / Results May Vary
Today I'm not myself
And you, you're someone else
And all these rules don't fit
And all that starts can quit
What a peculiar state we're in [...]
Let's play a game
Where all of the lives we lead can change
Let's play a game
Where nothing that we can see, the same
We'll find other pieces to the puzzles
Slipping out under the locks
I can show you how many moves to check mate right now
We can take apart this life we're building
And pack it up inside a box
All that really matters is we're doing it right now
Right now

You and I were meant to be, ain't no doubt about it no way to hide that sort of thing
Now I'm waiting for something better ain't nothing better worth imagining
I keep on running I'm building bridges that I know you never wanted
Look for my heart you stole it away
Now I'll never sing the road that I could take
Listen, I want you to burn my bridges down
I said I want you to burn my bridges down
Set me on fire
You set me, set me on fire

Something I Need / Empire of Storms
I know that we're not the same
But I'm so damn glad that we made it
To this time, this time, now
You got something I need
In this world full of people, there's one killing me
And if we only die once,
I wanna die with you

Preacher / Stealing Parker
I took a little faith
And put it in a parking lot
I drove to a strange town
Full of "have" and "have nots"
And as I walked through that storybook life
I was looking for an angel to chase the devil at night

Don't Look Down / The Thousandth Floor
Hey, I can hear you talking
Say, don’t look down, don’t look down.
Hey, I can hear you preaching
Say don’t leave me fall, fall.

Life in Color / This Adventure Ends
I do my best
To find some kind of glow
I'm giving it some heart and soul, now
From the darkest grays
The sun bursts, clouds break
Yeah, we see that fire
From the streets of Babylon
To the road that we've been on now
The kaleidoscope claims another
Oh oh oh oh (oh)
Well this is life in color (color)
Today feels like no other
