Bon Voyage: Dreaming of Damascus

I'm so excited to be dedicating an entire week on the blog to celebrate the fabulous novel Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. It's a time travel novel like nothing I've ever read before, written with Alex's fabulous storytelling skills, and I'm head over heels in love with it! Rachel of Hello Chelly and I are going to be sharing posts inspired by the novel all week. Today, both of us will be dressing both Etta & Nicholas in modern-day outfits inspired by locations they travel to in Passenger. I was inspired by their visit to Damascus, while Rachel decided to take on London. (And don't forget to enter the giveaway!)

When you read Passenger, you'll be able to see some of the era and location appropriate outfits that Alex dresses her characters in. This is not going to be anything like that, if I'm being real honest with you. It is, instead, going to be more like what I imagine Etta and Nicholas would wear if they were currently reliving the fond memories they have of their time in Damascus, crossed with having to attend a fancy celebration somewhere. I loosely took inspiration from the colors and combinations Alex used in her book, and this is what I came up with!

Chi Chi London Petite Brocade Prom Dress | Shape Study EarringsMiss Francy Prance Flat
I feel like Etta would look amazing in this dress! (Also, I may just be biased because I love sparkly things, and I'm really into gold these days.) I really love that brocade pattern, and the slight nod to modesty with the sheer insert up top. I also quite love the fact that the earrings and the flats would also look great with a white button down and jeans for a more casual look.

Plain Shirt | ASOS Skinny Blazer in Cotton | Stretch Cotton Trousers in Maroon |
Suede Leather Oxford Shoes | Knitted Bow Tie
This outfit got the seal of approval from my husband, who says he would totally wear it.  I chose to keep everything sleek by mostly using maroon-colored items, a shade that I'm also quite obsessed with at the moment. I also needed to include a bow tie (because bow ties are cool)! What I love about this look, again, is that the separate components of the outfit could be reused in a more casual day outfit.

I really found these particular outfits interesting for both Nicholas and Etta! It's not something I normally encounter in the novels I read, so it was a lot of fun to encounter it in Passenger. Would you wear something like this? (I think I would.) If you've read Passenger, what was your favorite outfit that Etta or Nicholas had to wear?
