A Truthwitch Affair: Safiya's Playlist

Welcome, friends, to an event that I've been excited about since it was first conceived last year - A Truthwitch Affair! All week long, Rachel of Hello Chelly & I will be celebrating the release of Truthwitch, the first novel in a new fantasy series from Susan Dennard. We're both huge Susan fans, having first fallen in love with her writing when we read her debut series, Something Strange and Deadly (see proof here & here). And while we'll always have a soft spot for the books that introduced us to her (and for Eleanor and Daniel), we are completely head-over-heels in love with Truthwitch!

Safiya fon Hasstrel is one fierce young woman. She's a Truthwitch, with magic that helps her sort truth from lie - an ability that many covet for their own purposes. She's a domna, a position of power when it comes to her family lands. She's a fighter, skilled in battle and schooled in subterfuge. She's calls Iseult det Midenzi her Threadsister, and would die for her and for the other companions she's loyal to. Safiya is also running, trying to leave behind the circumstances that have shaped her so far and the responsibilities that come with who she is. All Safiya wants is freedom. Until everything goes to hell in a hand basket. It is only when she's at the end of her rope, desperate to do right by those she cares for, that she learns she is truly capable of shaping the world. I wanted to capture Safiya's spirit and her experiences - and I hope I succeeded. (Don't forget to check out Rachel's playlist for Iseult!) (And don't forget that our giveaway for a signed copy of Truthwitch is still running!)

Rather Be / Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glyne
We're a thousand miles from comfort, we have traveled land and sea
But as long as you are with me, there's no place I'd rather be
I would wait forever, exalted in the scene
As long as I am with you, my heart continues to beat

Two of us on the Run / Lucius
And we'll one day tell our story
Of how we made something of ourselves now
Our favorite parts are what we'll keep
Ornamental parts of love and parts of memories
So everything else has room to grow
'Cause in better light, everything changes

Light Up the Dark / Gabrielle Aplin
There’s so little I’m afraid of when it comes to an end
But I can’t leave you on your own
When the chaos turns to silence and your enemies your friends
I will run away the storm

Running / James Bay
When the lights are faded to black
Only stars are guiding me back
I'll keep running
To the place where I belong
When you think you're on your own
I'm still coming home

Lionheart / Demi Lovato
You're never far from where I am
Like a lighthouse, bring me home
You're never far from me
Let your spirit glow
And we walk together into the light
And my love will be your armor tonight
We are lionhearts

Renegades / X Ambassadors
Run away-ay with me
Lost souls in revelry
Running wild and running free
Two kids, you and me
And I said hey
Hey, hey, hey
Living like we're renegades

Us Against the World / Coldplay
And I just want to be there when the lightning strikes
And the saints go marching in
And sing slow it down
Through chaos as it swirls
It's us against the world

Somewhere Only We Know / Keane
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

Stay in My Corner / The Arcs
I won't always be a winner, babe
In fact, I'm bound to burn
All these bumps in the road, dear
They're just lessons we learned, we learned
Stay in my corner, babe
Stay in my corner, please
Stay in my corner, babe
I will fight for you if you fight for me too

Break Free / Ariana Grande
If you want it, take it
I should have said it before
Tried to hide it, fake it
I can't pretend anymore [...]
This is the part when I say I don't want it
I'm stronger than I've been before
This is the part when I break free
'Cause I can't resist it no more
