Flights of Fantasy || May 2015

Can you believe we're at the end of another month already? 2015 is seriously just flying on by! I'm happy to report that I've read four fantasy books this month: Scarlet, Lady Thief, Lion Heart and The Wrath and the Dawn. This brings my total of fantasy novels read this year to 14 books, which is about half of my goal! Hopefully, I read more fantasy this summer... especially because I'll be embarking on a series binge or two.

Rachel and I thought it'd be fun to answer another question for this month's link-up. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section! This month's question is:

What's your favorite underrated fantasy?

I immediately knew what my answer to this question was going to be: The Books of Pellinor. This series is by Australian author Alison Croggon, and has everything I love about a fantasy novel: dense material, strong world-building, interesting characters and compelling plot. I read these years before I started this blog, so I'm overdue for a reread! But I definitely wanted to give them a shout-out in today's post. I also would highly recommend The Cadet of Tildor for those of you searching for a standalone fantasy read to fall in love with.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's answers, as I love getting new fantasy recommendations! Please share in the comments, and don't forget to link to your recap.

And since we've just about hit the midway mark, we're hosting a giveaway!

  2. Is it bad that I still haven't read this series? Even though Raquel and Kelly tell me I should? (Don't tell them this!)

I pretty much have to read this as soon as the mood hits, and then HOLY SWOOOON TIME!

Celaena for obvious reasons that can only be explained if you've read the books. Seriously.

  4. I can barely choose, but if someone put a gun to my head (or a collar... too soon?) I would pick Celaena. She's just wonderful in every way possible. Definitely a role model.

  5. Chaol! There was just something about him from the very beginning.

  6. I added the cadet of tildor on GR! It sounds really good! Hmm as far as underrated, I want to say the Green Rider seires by Kristin Britain. It's adult fantasy and I don't hear many people talk about it but I love it. The first book came out so long ago (I read it in high school!) but the series is still on going. It's slow going but I always want to push people to read the first!
