Holiday Films + Greeting

Happy holidays, darling readers! I can hardly believe that I'm typing up another greeting to share with you all on Christmas Day, but here we are. 2014 has been a whirlwind of a year, and as we wind down, I just wanted to tell YOU that I'm grateful for YOU - for any conversations we've had, for reading my blog posts, for flailing with me over books. It's truly a blessing! Hope your holiday season is filled with overflowing happiness and love, and that the new year brings many wonderful memories to come!

I thought I'd draw some inspiration from six of my favorite holiday films this year, and share them with you to celebrate the occasion. Let me know what your favorites are - and if we have any in common!

It is a holiday tradition for me & my best friend Jaymee to watch Serendipity every single year. It combines the magic of the holidays and the charm of New York City, while reflecting a certain perspective on the fate versus choice belief when it comes to romance. Watching this film always makes me want to walk around New York City during the holidays, and always has me jonesing for frozen hot chocolate too!

One of the films I always watch during the holiday season is Love Actually. It's my favorite big ensemble film I've seen, since I love pretty much every single storyline in it (and it doesn't hurt that I love a lot of the actors in the film too)! Seriously, this movie always makes me smile. And I love how it tackles all sorts of love in one's life, making it extra special by setting it during the holiday season.

Confession: It took me a surprisingly long time to actually sit down and watch Elf. But thank goodness I did! It's become one of those films that I return to time and again, because it makes me laugh and leaves me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Honestly, it's a fun way to celebrate the holidays - and a major bonus is that most people I know enjoy watching it too!

There is just no way that I could make a list of holiday films and not include Home Alone. It's fun to watch! The plot might be a little exaggerated, but it just makes for greater entertainment. With hijinks and shenanigans that are hilariously portrayed, and a heartwarming conclusion by the end of the movie, it's definitely another movie that I put on my holiday viewing list.

I'm clearly a sucker for romances and movies where the characters are forced to think about their lives, because I really love The Holiday. It's such a charming little film that follows the lives of two women when they swap residences for the holidays. There's just so many things that are sweet and funny and lovely about this film, and it makes me happy when I put it on during the holiday season.

There had to be at least one animated film, and of course I picked out a favorite - An Enchanted Christmas. I love Beauty and the Beast so very much! It brings my heart so much joy that I get to revisit old favorite characters, and meet lovely new ones. Plus, the way that this film depicts the essence of Christmas - it's beautiful.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

  2. Even though I've seen Love Actually a handful of times, I only just now realized that Andrew Lincoln is in it!

  4. It's totally late to comment this, but you've given me some great ideas for holiday movies I've never watched! I hear so many people say how much they LOVE Love Actually, so maybe it's time I sit down and watch it? Similar to the time it took you to see Elf! Ugh. Elf is amazing. I quote it year round.
