Married by Morning is the first book I got to read from The Hathaways series by Lisa Kleypas, which I feel is a travesty because I simply adored the Hathaways. Though the book, however, is actually the fourth in the series, I never felt like I had to read the other three in order to get to know the characters in it. It was easy to see the personality of each character (and be intrigued by the couples that were already married, of course) and I found myself utterly delighted upon my reading.
I loved our heroine and our hero - Catherine Marks and Leo Hathaway. First of all, Marks reminds of myself in many ways - bookish, brilliant, stubborn and opinionated - so it's not surprising that I would find myself rooting for her from the very beginning. Leo, on the other hand, sounds like a stud and I find that I have an incredibly large crush on him after reading the book.
I always love watching how two people who supposedly "hate" each other fall in love. It's a journey that tends to be interesting, especially when the two people in question are stubborn and opinionated and yet, even the reader can see, that they're perfectly matched. I enjoyed the journey from hatred to love, love, love, as I'm quite a sucker for a happy ending.
But - and this may be because I wasn't able to read the three books prior to this one - I feel like everything that happened in the first half of the book was a bit too fast. There's this interesting subplot of Catherine's past coming to haunt her, which adds another dimension to her character but also adds extra drama to the mix. Plus, they started having feelings for each other almost straightaway, which may have had buildup in the previous books that I just didn't know about.
The story did manage to respond to my craving for romance and drama, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. As always, Kleypas has managed to create another set of characters for me to love. Married by Morning (and the rest of the Hathaway series, I'm sure though I haven't read some yet) are perfect for fans of romance.
