I Will Keep You Safe • Hello Stranger (+ Giveaway)

I'm so pleased to be a part of the blog tour for Hello Stranger, the fourth book in Lisa Kleypas' Ravenel series. Full disclosure, as a participant, I was sent an early copy to read for review. I'm sharing my full thoughts down below, but the overall, I adored it and it's tied for Marrying Winterborne as my favorite of the series so far.

Hello Stranger centers around the romance that springs up between Dr. Garrett Gibson and Ethan Ransom, who are both characters who have appeared in the previous books. Garrett is the only female physician in England of her time, used to independence, standing up for herself and knowing her own mind. Ethan, who formerly worked with Scotland Yard, is a detective and rumored assassin who is currently navigating some very muddy waters. With all the obstacles that face them individually, it's no surprise that it takes a little time before either one of them gives in to the romantic tension that constantly bubbles between them. But when something Ethan is working on goes awry, it will be up to Garrett to save the man she loves.

I had so much fun reading Hello Stranger. It reminded me (in a good way!) of Castles, in the sense that it also involves a pair who get involved in a politically centered mystery that involves plenty of danger and secrecy. But the two main characters are what make this story stand out! Garrett is, without a doubt, one of the most interesting female characters I've encountered in a romance in a while. She's smart and unapologetic about it, she knows what she wants and she's willing to pursue it, and there's a touch of vulnerability there too that I enjoyed. Ethan, on the other hand, is pretty much my usual type: physically strong, intelligent at putting things together, fiercely loyal and protective, as well as being in possession bloody vulnerable, mushy heart underneath. I enjoyed seeing sparks fly between them, and witnessing their relationship progress in spite of all the obstacles they faced. Even though the pacing was a little off to me, I still liked it a lot.

All in all, Hello Stranger wound up being a pretty solid new romance release from Lisa Kleypas. I enjoyed the time I spent with Garrett and Ransom, I thought the story was really fun and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. (Please, please, pretty please be about West....)

A woman who defies her time

Dr. Garrett Gibson, the only female physician in England, is as daring and independent as any man—why not take her pleasures like one? Yet she has never been tempted to embark on an affair, until now. Ethan Ransom, a former detective for Scotland Yard, is as gallant as he is secretive, a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. For one exhilarating night, they give in to their potent attraction before becoming strangers again.

A man who breaks every rule

As a Ravenel by-blow spurned by his father, Ethan has little interest in polite society, yet he is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. Despite their vow to resist each other after that sublime night, she is soon drawn into his most dangerous assignment yet. When the mission goes wrong, it will take all of Garrett’s skill and courage to save him. As they face the menace of a treacherous government plot, Ethan is willing to take any risk for the love of the most extraordinary woman he’s ever known.
