Tracking Down Tunes: Date Night Songs

We're back for Tracking Down Tunes! Lindsey of Bring My Books & I are teaming up on this collaboration, inspired by our mutual desire to broaden our musical horizons. Basically, we both listen to music the same way: we find a favorite artist or album or track and listen to it nonstop. In an effort to diversify the music we listen to, we decided it would be fun to go out of our way to listen to new songs - and that it would be even better if we could recommend stuff to each other. So, every month, we'll be sharing our monthly playlists (for the previous month) with all of you!

This month, we are all about the love. February is the month of love, and yes, maybe it's in big part because Valentine's Day falls on this month. I, however, prefer to think of it as a month where individuals choose to celebrate the people they truly care for - whether family, friends or a romantic partner. We should be doing this all year round, of course, but there's certainly something significant about celebrating it when the rest of the world is being extra vocal about love too. Lindsey & I are sharing songs about love today, specifically five new-to-us tunes and five tunes we'd recommend each other.

My Recommendations

Gravity / Sara Bareilles - I find this song incredibly poignant. It just so perfectly describes that feeling when you know you shouldn't be drawn to someone, yet you still are. I personally feel like gravity is a big part of relationships; you're always drawn to the people you keep in your life.

Breathless / The Corrs - When I was in high school, I loved this band! I very nearly picked a different song for this playlist. But I decided that I couldn't resist how catchy this is, and how it really captures that moment when you can longer fight the attraction you have for someone.

I Was Made for Loving You / Tori Kelly feat. Ed Sheeran - I'm really proud that I managed to sneak a familiar face onto this list. (I love Ed Sheeran, y'all.) But seriously, the combination of vocals is perfection! I really like that this song is about taking a risk, because you know that it feels right.

Burn with You / Lea Michele - Now, I'm not an advocate of problematic relationships at all. But the haunting feel and the desperate love that she seems to be singing about is just irresistible in song form (at least to me). It's heartbreaking, it's powerful and I just had to put it on this playlist.

Ghost / Indigo Girls - This song brings me back to my college days, around the year that my husband and I first met as he was the one who introduced it to me. Talk about haunting tunes. This song just makes me think about lost loves, or the loves that never leave us.

My Latest Discoveries

Made for You / Alexander Cardinale - The opening notes of this song immediately had me perking up to listen. When I realized it was a guy singing about how he was meant specifically to be with someone, I was hooked. I'm a sucker for a sweet love song, and this fits the bill.

I Get to Love You / Ruelle - Not going to lie: I originally thought this was another song from Christina Perri because it sounded so much like A Thousand Years. Obviously, I was wrong. It didn't stop me from falling in love with the soothing melody and the lovely lyrics.

Ocean Eyes (Astronomyy Edit) / Billie Eilish - This song just puts me in such a good headspace whenever it comes on. It's not only the fact that the melody is so pleasing to my ears; I also just really like the way it sounds like the singer is unable to resist her subject's "ocean eyes".

Heartbeat / Carrie Underwood - I've also officially added this tune to my karaoke playlist, because I damn well want to sing it and sing it well. But seriously, I love Carrie's voice. I also adore how this song immediately calls to mind a story in my head: two people who just want to get away for some time alone.

How Long Will I Love You / Ellie Goulding - I don't listen to a lot of Ellie Goulding, so this might be old for some of you, but it's totally new to me. I actually came across this one on accident, as it was part of a playlist I stumbled across on Spotify! It's just a sweet little love song.

Do you like any of these songs? What are your favorite love songs?
