Press Play: A Court of Thorns and Roses Playlist

Words cannot express my excitement over A Court of Thorns and Roses, the newest novel from the fabulous Sarah J. Maas. I'm proud to be known for my love for Sarah, especially since she's one of the most talented, beautiful, inspiring people I've ever known. And I'm also proud to be officially fangirling over two of her series - Throne of Glass and now, A Court of Thorns and Roses. (Seriously, I will never not gush over Sarah or her novels. You can find proof here, here, here, here and here.)

Today, I'm thrilled to be kicking off this week's set of blog tour posts with a playlist inspired by A Court of Thorns and Roses! I love that this novel is darker, more sensual and much closer in tone to the fairy tales I used to read as a child. And though it's mostly an intense, lush fairy tale, there are also moments of lightness to be found. I've tried to capture that here with ten songs inspired by the story and six songs inspired by the main characters.

Big Bad World by Kodaline
We go out on our own
It’s a big bad world outside
Carrying’ our dreams and all that they mean
Trying to make it all worthwhile.

Goodbye, Apathy by One Republic
And all at once (as I'm trying)
I can help you out (just to keep things right)
I'll be what you need (I kill myself to make)
I'll do anything (everything perfect for you)
Goodbye, apathy,
So long, apathy

Broken Hearted by Jon McLaughlin
And white lies all come and separate us from the cruel truth we live
And long nights go ahead and take all the time that I can give
Every moment that comes can be disregarded
You’ll never love someone ‘til you’re broken hearted

Four Walls by Broods
And I'm trying hard to make you love me but I don't wanna try too hard
And I'm trying hard to take it lightly but we're here now
Those four walls now are the only place that I can breathe out
And those four walls now are home

Scars by James Bay
We grow apart,
I watch you on the red horizon
Your lion's heart
Will protect you under stormy skies
And I will always be listening for your laughter and your tears
And as soon as I can hold you once again
I won't let go of you, I swear

Lay Me Down by Sam Smith
Days just seems so dark
The moon, the stars
Are nothing without you
Your touch, your skin
Where do I begin?
No words can explain
The way I'm missing you
Deny this emptiness
This hole that I'm inside
These tears
They tell their own story

Haunted by Taylor Swift
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted
I know, I know, I just know
You're not gone. You can't be gone. No.

You Won't Feel a Thing by The Script
When trouble thinks it's found us
The world falls down around us
I promise baby you won't ever
You won't ever feel a thing [...]
Cause everything the world could throw
I'll stand in front. I'll take the blow for you.
For you.

Midnight by Coldplay
In the darkness before the dawn
In the swirling of the storm
When I'm rolling with the punches and hope is gone
Leave a light a light on

Banner (Acoustic) by Lights
I don't need fate to give it time,
It doesn't take pain to change your mind
No weapon can sever the soul from me
Not the sorceress, not the money
All my cleverness, all my cunning
So lift it up like a banner
Hold it up over me
If this war is never ending
I'll take this love down with me
Like a banner
Like a banner

Human by Christina Perri || Feyre
But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I'm only human
And I crash and I break down
Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
'Cause I'm only human

Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran || Tamlin
Give me love like never before,
'Cause lately I've been craving more,
And it's been a while but I still feel the same,
Maybe I should let you go.

The Devil's Tears by Angus & Julia Stone || Tamlin
Some call love a word, some call love a thief
But she's my home
And she's as much apart for this broken heart, but see
Broken bones always seem to mend
I'll taste the devil's tears
Drink from his soul, but I'll never give up you

King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men || Lucien
His crown lit up the way as we moved slowly
Past the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind.
Though far away, though far away, though far away
We're still the same, we're still the same, we're still the same.
Howling ghosts – they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.

Everybody's Watching Me by The Neighborhood || Rhysand
I go through all the trouble of keeping it within my walls
I try to be as subtle as I can
Assume that nothing needs me, all I've done defeats me
It looks like you were right again
And again

Power and Control by Marina and the Diamonds || The Fae Queen
Power and control,
I’m gonna make you fall.
I’m gonna make you fall,
We give and take a little more,
‘Cause all my life I’ve been controlled,
You can’t have peace without a war,
Without a war, without a war.

I honestly can say that I love how this playlist turned out, particularly when you listen to it from beginning to end. It sounds exactly like my own personal reading experience with A Court of Thorns and Roses, and I hope it encourages you to pick up the novel for yourself and check it out! And now, thanks to the lovely people over at Bloomsbury, you have a chance to win an awesome prize pack that consists of a hardcover copy of A Court of Thorns and Roses, a temporary tattoo and a mask of your very own! This giveaway is US ONLY.

MORE ON THE BOOK & SARAH J. MAAS

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae.

But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it... or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

All of these songs go so well with ACOTAR! When I listened to the Sam Smith song it reminded me of certain scenes and I DO NOT want to think of those!
