PierceFest || July Kick-off

PierceFest
As you all might know, I, along with a couple of my favorite bloggers, decided that this would be an excellent year to celebrate the incredible Tamora Pierce! The four of us - Gillian, Gaby, Rachel and I - bonded over our mutual love for her books and characters and world, and so PierceFest was born. It's been a fun two months, with Gillian celebrating the Song of the Lioness quartet on her blog in May and Gaby just recently hosting The Immortals on hers in June. It is now July and my turn to host the festivities! We've also had one noteworthy change, which is my friend Jen taking over for Rachel next month!

I'm so excited to be able to celebrate this particular Pierce series, as I don't believe it's gotten as much love as the others! Set in Emelan, the Circle of Magic series (which is followed by The Circle Opens and Circle Reforged) is a bit different from the Tortall books, but equally wonderful. I love the four main characters that we follow through this series - Briar, Tris, Daja and Sandry - and all the adventures and misadventures they go through together. This month, I'll be doing reviews of all 10 books, tossing up some character profiles and hosting a discussion post or two! There's certainly a lot to look forward to, and I hope that I can convince YOU to give this awesome (set of) series a try.

  1. I'm still a bit of a Tamora Pierce newbie (I've only read Terrier and Bloodhound), but I'm just more excited for Pierce Fest because of it! :)

    1. I think that makes it even better! I'd definitely recommend starting from the very beginning and working your way forward - Song of the Lioness, The Immortals, Protector of the Small. The Circle of Magic (which is my series for the month) is actually the only series you don't necessary have to read in order!

  2. I love the pants off of this series. This was on the first Tamora Pierce series I've read! I love the focus on the more magical elements, rather than the sword-fighting and knight stuff. Although all of that is badass too. YOU ARE MAKING ME WANT TO READ, DAMN YOU!

    1. You were SO right about the Blogger thing, which makes me laugh! But I'm so happy you left on a comment on this and even MORE happy that you adore this series too. Honestly, I feel like people have the tendency to overlook it a lot, but it's SO GOOD! I love the friendship and the magic and the adventures and the mentor-trainee relationships and just EVERYTHING. I can't wait to indulge in a re-read!

  3. I'm a newbie but a friend gaped at me a few months ago when I said I hadn't read Tamora Pierce!

  4. I am a long long long time fan :) My best friend got me into her books about...ten years ago? That sounds about right. I flew through them and was so inspired by Alanna. I also read the Circle of Magic books, but I really want to read them again!

  5. Dude I love Fantasy/Magic Books how have I not read anything by her! I wonder what else I am missing out on. I haven't read much before 2011. This is an awesome event you girls are doing. Maybe I can start one of her series soon. I am thinking Circle of Magic. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity :)

  7. Oh my god, I have so many unread T-Pierce books on my shelf but like a giant failure I am a bit reluctant to join in as I want to strictly focus on ARCs and books to get rid of -- my house is overrun by books.
