Top Ten Tuesday: I Laughed and I Cried

As always, this feature is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
When I read these books, I had a lot of feelings. There were sad, good, bad, happy ones all around!

1. Divergent by Veronica Roth (Review)
This entire novel was an intense experience for me - my heart was pounding, my emotions were tossed all over the place.  It was the first book that came to mind for this Top Ten Tuesday post.

2. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
I cried a lot while I was reading this book, mostly because of the relationship between Ronnie and her father.  In true Sparks fashion, it's sad, but there's also a lesson to be learned and happiness to be found.

3. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
As I've mentioned many times before, it was Maggie's book Shiver that got me into werewolf books.  There's just so much raw emotion in this first book of the series; I cried when I read it too.

4. Beauty Queens by Libba Bray (Review)
Libba managed to make me laugh out loud so many times with this outrageously funny novel.

5-7. The Hunger Games (Review// Catching Fire (Review) // Mockingjay (Review)
I couldn't decide which book in the series affected me the most emotionally because they all did.  I was happy, I was sad, I was angry, I was afraid - these books inspired a truckload of emotion while I was reading them.

8-9. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince // Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I grew up with Harry Potter.  And watching so many characters I got to know and love die was horribly sad.  There was a lot of outrage on my part as well, and there were happy bits too. (Order of the Phoenix deserves a special mention, but the only part that really struck me was Sirius' death.)

10-17. The Duke & I // The Viscount Who Loved Me // An Offer from a Gentleman // Romancing Mr. Bridgerton // To Sir Phillip, With Love // When He Was Wicked // It's In His Kiss // On the Way to the Wedding

I love the Bridgerton family and the novels that Julia Quinn wrote about them.  These books made me laugh, made me cry and got me riled up - and they're great examples of historical romances. I have so much love for Julia Quinn!

What are some books that inspired strong emotions in you?

  5. I'm glad you pointed out The Last Song. Despite the fact that Sparks gets very redundant in his themes and locations, I think this is hands-down his best work and I'm disappointed the movie wasn't nearly as good as the book. (Although that hasn't stopped me from watching it about a billion times.) Good choices! I have Beauty Queens on my list too! :) Have a great weekend! - Estelle

    1. I really loved The Last Song, because I felt such a strong connection to Ronnie. I'm not such a big fan of the film (though I do watch it a lot), but the book is amazing.

  8. It seems I need to be reading me some Julia Quinn! I love historical romance, but have never read a book by her. Have you read Sarah MacLean's Love By Numbers series? It's VERY good and all three books made me cry.
And YES to The Hunger Games trilogy and the two Harry Potter books! And OMG, Sirius! I was SO sad. I haven't reread book 5 and up because the endings made me sad!
    Great list!!

    1. You definitely need to read the Bridgerton series from Julia Quinn! It's absolutely brilliant, and I love that it's about a set of 7 siblings.

Also, Sarah MacLean's Love by Number series is FABULOUS. It made me laugh a lot while I read it!
