August 2020

August was a lovely month overall, which I'm glad for considering it's also when I celebrate my birthday! I was blessed enough to be able to escape a little from the confines of our apartment and get out of the city twice: first to have a joint birthday weekend celebration away with one of my friends, and then again to visit family up in Cape Cod. It was really lovely to be able to spend time out of doors safely and properly socially distanced, since we'd been a little deprived of time outside. Other things that happened this month? A lot of epic book mail (truly, I've received so many amazing things that I am so excited about), plenty of Magic the Gathering sessions (it's our New York family's latest favorite gaming activity), fan fiction writing (I'm not quite caught up in terms of numbers, but I did produce some work and that's a step forward) and plenty of reading.

I managed to read another 13 books this month! My favorites are all fantasy books, including The Great Hunt (the second book in the Wheel of Time series), Legacy (the eighth book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series and my favorite so far), The Lost Book of the White (the second book in The Eldest Curses series that follows the Shadowhunters Scooby gang and their shenanigans), Kingdom of the Wicked (an atmospheric darkly magical series starter from Kerri Maniscalco), Fable (a richly immersive new book from Adrienne Young) and two Guild Hunter titles Archangel's Storm and Archangel's Legion.

I went on an unplanned hiatus on the blog in August, though I did share a mini Q&A with Janella Angeles and my thoughts on Daughter of Smoke and Bone for the Paranormal Book Club. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get back into the blogging groove for September so that I can share more posts with you all, especially as I've been lucky enough to read some great titles this year that I haven't had the chance to really talk about yet! Macky & I also took an unplanned hiatus for the channel & the podcast, but fully intend to get back into the swing of things with both of those platforms as well.

(P.S. I hope you're continuing to stay up to date as much as you can with everything going on in the world. Here's a helpful set of links to get you started! And I know it can get really overwhelming, so please don't forget to make sure to take a step back for your own mental health when you need to.)

  4. I am so glad you were able to safely and responsibly get out for a little while! I will admit quarantine is starting to feel a bit suffocating but it's definitely necessary, I just wish my reading was improving because of it!
