Tracking Down Tunes: Happy-Making Tunes

We're back for Tracking Down Tunes! Lindsey of Bring My Books & I are teaming up on this collaboration, inspired by our mutual desire to broaden our musical horizons. Basically, we both listen to music the same way: we find a favorite artist or album or track and listen to it nonstop. In an effort to diversify the music we listen to, we decided it would be fun to go out of our way to listen to new songs - and that it would be even better if we could recommend stuff to each other. So, every month, we'll be sharing our monthly playlists (for the previous month) with all of you!

I listen to pop songs majority of the time (with Disney songs and dance tunes), and those tend to be real happy melodies in general. This obviously made coming up with this month's playlist real easy, as I've got just the right collection of melodies to share. So, check out some of my old favorites and some newer discoveries in this month's playlist, along with Lindsey's song additions too!

My Recommendations

Shut Up and Dance / Walk the Moon - Ever since I first watched the video compiling movie dance clips that used this song as the soundtrack, I have loved it wholeheartedly. It just makes me feel so gosh darn happy, and I find myself shimmying around to it when I'm listening no matter where I happen to be.

Walking on Sunshine / Katrina & the Waves - I'm pretty sure one of my dance performances was to this song, but that's not why I love it. I love it because it is just so gosh darn impossible for me to not smile when I hear it! Whenever I find myself a little down, I just know that pulling this song into my musical rotation will immediately guarantee a better mood.

Piano / Ariana Grande - Whenever I listen to a full album, there is always 1-2 songs that will really stick out to me. Piano was that song for Ariana Grande's debut album, Yours Truly. I was completely reeled in by that catchy hook, and I just like how the song itself sounds so happy. It basically has the singer saying they're focusing on writing a happy tune for listeners to enjoy!

Rather Be / Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - I honestly can't even remember when or how I first came across this song, but I really do love it! It's just the perfect pop dance tune to both (a) bop along to and (b) sing along to. I am constantly hitting repeat whenever it comes up in my playlist, because it's just that good (to my ears).

Be My Forever / Christina Perri feat. Ed Sheeran - This song is so freaking adorable! I just like how catchy the melody is right from the start, and the lyrics just make it even better. It's one of my favorite happy little love songs, and I always find myself grinning and getting that warm and fuzzy feeling when it comes on.

My Latest Discoveries

Me and You / One Two - Whenever Macky & I are working on things at home, we sit together at our dining table and take turns choosing what music to play. He was recently listening to one of his playlists, and this song popped up and I loved it immediately. The bouncy melody is so me.

Adventure / Cheat Codes - I'm pretty sure that this was just a random find when I was browsing Spotify recently, but it immediately got added into one of my playlists (and then this one)! I love that it is a song that sounds like summer to me - which is always a happy thing.

Drive / The Well Pennies - I love when Spotify introduces me to songs that are just so perfectly, inexplicably me. I immediately latched onto this song when it came up on one of those curated playlists. It's such a relaxing melody to listen to, a very chill version of my usual happy, dance-y pop tunes, and I love it so, so much.

Can't Stop the Feeling! / Justin Timberlake - I love Justin Timberlake. I've always considered him a favorite since his boy band days, and I consistently enjoy his stuff! I was incredibly excited to see that he was releasing a new tune - and I love it so. It's just so catchy, and so fun, and something I never fail to sway to and smile when I hear it play.

We Are Stars / Virginia to Vegas feat. Alyssa Reid - Honestly, the reason I initially listened to this song was because of the title. I'm a little bit obsessed with the stars and the night sky, so I like listening to songs that mention the stars. And this song is so catchy! It makes me feel strong. It makes me feel inspired. It makes me feel happy.

Do you like any of these songs? What are your favorite songs to listen to on a rainy day?
