Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile & uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

INTERVIEW

Welcome to one of today's stops for the blog tour for Runes! My review will be going up in the next two weeks, but for the moment, allow me to present my interview with author Ednah Walters.

Alexa: How did you come up with the characters in your books? I'm especially curious to hear how their personalities (quirks and all) came to be.

Ednah Walters: I wish I could take all the credit. I have 4 daughters and you'd be amazed how different they are. I tailored Cora after my last two, who both have way too much attitude. I took the good and the bad in them and created Cora.

Raine is more like my second daughter, quiet, snarky without being in your face, sarcastic, loves to read, but goes out of her way not to read popular books or watch popular movies or even listen to popular music (a total hipster, but she'll deny it).

Torin is completely a figment of my imagination. He's the bad boy I wish I'd dated in high school.

Eirik is a lot like my oldest daughter, funny, loyal, dependable, best friend a girl could have, but in looks, he favors one of my best friends [from] when I was in college. He was German and gay, but so much fun to hang out with.

A: Who are your top three fictional book characters?

EW: Jace from The Mortal Instruments, Patch from [the] Hush Hush series [and] Bran from my Guardian Legacy series. Yeah, I know, I'm into hot guys...

A: If you could slip into any character's life for a day, who would it be and why?

EW: A Norn. Imagine having the power to decide people's destiny! (Alexa's Note: This is a character type one encounters in Runes and I'll admit, they're very interesting.)
