An Author a (Mon)day: Michelle Madow (+ Giveaway)

Today's An Author a (Mon)day post is very special indeed, as I get the opportunity to feature one of the authors that I really love! Michelle Madow and I share a mutual love of Taylor Swift and writing (which all came together when she wrote her first novel, Remembrance!), and I have been reading her series since the first book came out. Timeless is the third and last book in the series, and I've got to say that it is the best way the series could have ended (and my review is coming up soon!)

An Author a (Mon)day is my new little feature on the blog, one that will be posted every so often. Every month there's a theme, and I will be asking authors three questions related to it. I'll also tell you a little bit about why I loved their book!

DECEMBER THEME: STORY

Alexa: How did you come up with the story for Timeless, the third book in your series?
Michelle: I always knew that in the concluding book to the Transcend Time Saga, I wanted Lizzie to go back in time to Regency Era, England. When writing Vengeance, the short story that bridges Remembrance and Timeless, I needed a catalyst event to occur that would make the time travel in Timeless necessary. (If you’ve read Vengeance, you know what that event is.) After figuring out that Lizzie would have to go back in time to stop her death in the past from happening, the story pieced together from there!

Alexa: When you started writing your series, did you know the ultimate ending? Or did it come to you as you wrote?

Michelle: I knew how I wanted the series to end, but the way I got there changed a LOT from the way I imagined it when I was writing Remembrance. I had originally planned the series as a trilogy, but Book Two would have been mostly fluff, and unnecessary to get to the end of the series. Once I realized that, I changed the entire idea of Book Two, and made it into Vengeance, a short story in Chelsea’s perspective. After finishing Vengeance, I knew how I wanted Timeless to pan out, and wrote the outline a month later. I stuck to that outline, minus a side-adventure that got thrown in while I was writing.

Alexa: If you could give any book an alternate ending, which book would it be and what ending would you give it?

Michelle: I wish I could give an alternate ending to Splendor by Anna Godbersen. I love the Luxe series, but I wanted Diana to marry Henry and live happily ever after. But no … she sailed away to Paris, and who knows what happened to her once she got there? I would love to see an ending where Diana and Henry manage to be together!

Alexa: What was your favorite bedtime story as a child?

Michelle: I loved that book Goodnight, Moon! Then, when I got to kindergarten, I remember tearing through the Sweet Valley Kids series. Jessica was always my favorite twin!

MORE ABOUT Michelle Madow

Michelle Madow was inspired to write Remembrance after seeing Taylor Swift's "Love Story" music video while a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The song and video gave her the story idea about a high school girl reincarnated from Regency Era, England. She handed in the first chapter as a homework assignment for class, and when her teacher and classmates wanted her to continue writing, she decided to go for it. By the end of the school year, her first novel was completed!

Michelle graduated from the Park School of Baltimore in 2005, where she always took two English classes each semester. She graduated from Rollins College in 2010, cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. At Rollins she was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and a member of the International English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta.

She received the Charles Hyde Pratt Award for Excellence in Creative Writing in 2010.

Michelle lives in Florida, where she is hard at work writing more novels for young adults.

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to reading Remembrance, yet, but I have been really looking forward to it. Michelle Madow was so sweet and intelligent when I met her at BEA and I've only heard wonderful things about her books.
