Since being named “London’s Lord to Land” by a popular ladies’ magazine, Nicholas St. John has been relentlessly pursued by every matrimony-minded female in the ton. So when an opportunity to escape fashionable society presents itself, he eagerly jumps—only to land in the path of the most determined, damnably delicious woman he’s ever met!

The daughter of a titled wastrel, Lady Isabel Townsend has too many secrets and too little money. Though she is used to taking care of herself quite handily, her father’s recent passing has left Isabel at sea and in need of outside help to protect her young brother’s birthright. The sinfully handsome, eminently eligible Lord Nicholas could be the very salvation she seeks. But the lady must be wary and not do anything reckless and foolish…like falling madly, passionately in love.

Right after reading Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake, I went out and got myself a copy of this book. I was eager to read more about Nicholas, Ralston's brother, and this book's synopsis looked intriguing to me as much as the first one was.

It was another quick read (under an hour) and I loved it. I always love a good love story, and Sarah MacLean is excellent at telling them. There was a hero who helped the heroine overcome her problem, a heroine who finally was brave enough to take an important step, a lineup of quirky supporting characters and a quiet little house in the country - all aspects adding up to a wonderful book.

That having been said, it is unfortunate that I have to announce how I don't really like our heroine, Isabel. I respect her and her final choice in the end to get Nicholas back, but I really don't like her. I mean, she was quirky enough, I suppose and I respect her work ethic and sense of charity, but I don't like her as much as I liked Calli.

Nicholas St. John, on the other hand, was a complete revelation. He completely eclipsed Gabriel in my list of favorite romance heroes just because he was incredibly fascinating to read about. There was certainly quite an aura of mystery about him, and his interesting talents and quiet sensitivity were a pleasure to read about. As much as Isabel fell for him (and denied it initially, of course), I fell for him too.

As a fan of Sarah's and the series, I think it was a great book. There were a lot of more heartfelt issues tackled, so this was a bit more serious than the first, but I think it was a good addition to move the series forward. You should definitely pick it up if you're a romance fan.

(Also, I'm excited to read the third installment about the St. John sister, Juliana in Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart!)
