{Bookish} Style Files: Fate of Flames

I'm so excited about today's edition of {Bookish} Style Files! Inspired by the upcoming release Fate of Flames (which is officially out tomorrow, by the way, and I thought it was real entertaining - review to come!), I'm sharing four different sets of looks inspired by the four Effigies in the novel. To put it simply, in the world of Fate of Flames, there are four girls destined to become the four Effigies - humans with the ability to wield the elemental powers of Fire, Earth, Air and Water - who fight and kill the Phantoms that threaten the safety of the earth and its inhabitants. I'll be sharing the official summary of the book below, so be sure to check that out before you check out my dress selections!

Fate of Flames by Sarah Raughley
Series: Effigies #1
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Publication Date: November 22, 2016 (That's tomorrow!)

Four girls with the power to control the elements and save the world from a terrible evil must come together in the first epic novel in a brand-new series.

When Phantoms—massive beasts made from nightmares and darkness—suddenly appeared and began terrorizing the world, four girls, the Effigies, each gained a unique power to control one of the classical elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Since then, four girls across the world have continually fought against the Phantoms, fulfilling their cosmic duty. And when one Effigy dies, another girl gains her power as a replacement.

But now, with technologies in place to protect the world’s major cities from Phantom attacks, the Effigies have stopped defending humanity and, instead, have become international celebrities, with their heroic feats ranked, televised, and talked about in online fandoms.

Until the day that New York City’s protection against the Phantoms fails, a man seems to be able to control them by sheer force of will, and Maia, a high school student, unexpectedly becomes the Fire Effigy. Now Maia has been thrown into battle with three girls who want nothing to do with one another. But with the first human villain that the girls have ever faced, and an army of Phantoms preparing for attack, there isn’t much time for the Effigies to learn how to work together. Can the girls take control of their destinies before the world is destroyed forever?

About the author: Sarah Raughley grew up in Southern Ontario writing stories about freakish little girls with powers because she secretly wanted to be one. She is a huge fangirl of anything from manga to SF/F TV to Japanese Role Playing Games, but she will swear up and down that she was inspired by ~Jane Austin~ at book signings. On top of being a YA Writer, she is currently completing a PhD in English, because the sight of blood makes her queasy (which crossed Medical School off the list). She is represented by The Bradford Literary Agency. So far, you can also find her on Twitter, where work ethic goes to die. • Find Sarah online: Website | Twitter | Tumblr

In Fate of Flames, as previously mentioned, there are four Effigies - Belle Rousseau, Chae Rin Kim, Victoria "Lake" Soyinka and main narrator Maia Finley. I thought it'd be fun to share one casual and one dressy look per gal, so check out my picks for each of them below!

Maia Finley is the newest Fire Effigy, described as having dark hair, dark eyes and light skin. (ed: 12/02/2016: I would like to correct this - apparently, she has darker skin. I still think that these would look cute on her!) She'd don the In the Very Near Twofer Striped Dress for a casual day out (and look really cute too!), and then change into the Beautiful Beginnings A-Line Dress for a cocktail party.

Belle Rousseau is basically a prodigy, kicking ass as the Water Effigy, and she's described as having blond hair, blue eyes and fair skin. The Poisat Sequined Halter Dress is a bit dressy but it seems to suit her "ice princess" aesthetic, while the Celestial Halter Gown would make her look like a goddess.

Chae Rin Kim is a temperamental Earth Effigy, described as having black hair, dark eyes and pale skin. She would definitely be likely to wear the Cropped Jumpsuit (if she could talk her way out of a dress) for a day out, and then don this beautiful Printed Dress with Lace Back for a party.

Victoria "Lake" Soyinka is the reluctant Air Effigy, who dreams of being a pop star, and she's described as having brown skin, black hair and dark eyes. She'd definitely pull off a casual, cool girl style with this Slip Sweater Set for the day and the Malu Velvet Mini Dress for a nighttime outing.

Which girl's outfits are your favorite? (Personally, I'm most drawn to Belle, followed closely by Lake.) Apart from coveting all the gorgeous outfits, I hope that this post has made you even more curious about Fate of Flames. And if it has, well, today is your lucky day! You've got a chance to win one of three finished copies of Fate of Flames (US ONLY), and all you have to do is enter via the Rafflecopter form below:
