The Geek's Guide to Dating is seriously adorable. That's the first word that pops into mind, even as the cover elicits a smile. It's such a cute book, filled with practical advice and geeky references. Even though I'm well past the dating-to-find-my-husband stage, I still think everything in this book was thoughtful, well-expressed and certainly useful.

The best part of this particular self-help book? It's written in a manner that's just completely consistent, in terms of tone and language. It sounds like advice being shared between friends, very conversational and very easy to get into from the start. Even though it's got a lot of lists and definitions and all that stuff, it's still pretty simple to understand.

Of course, this book is peppered with lots of off-hand, quirky references. I love the fact that I could understand most of them, even though I'm not technically a full-on geek. The moments and characters and quotes drawn from video games, television shows and even movies were really used in the best ways. I laughed a lot, even as my brain processed them well!

The advice in The Geek's Guide to Dating is gold, whether you're a geek or not. Complete with the cute 8-bit illustrations, clever section divisions and advice that anyone can use, I would definitely say that reading this book is an enjoyable experience. It would make a great Christmas present, particularly for the geeks in your life! (In my case, I'm sending the copy over to my husband -- I know he's going to love this.)

Maybe I could even get him to read it!! hahahaha who am I kidding? That would mean he would have to put the game controller down...
