2013 Book Blogger Love-a-Thon || The Interview Swap

As co-hosts of this event, Katelyn and I decided early on that we would be interviewing each other. Katelyn is the amazing blogger behind Tales of Books and Bands, where she blogs about some really rad books and some really awesome music. She's also one of the sweetest, funniest and friendliest people I've ever met, and definitely one of the book bloggers I'd consider a real friend. It was so much fun to hang out with her at BEA last year, and I can only hope we get to do it again this year!

with Katelyn at BEA 2012

Since I've known Katelyn for over a year now, I decided it would be fun to have her accomplish a very... unorthodox sort of "interview" just because I can. Without further ado, here's her answers to all the questions I asked her. I hope you enjoy reading them!

(P.S. Thanks Katelyn for rising up to the challenge of this unusual interview I tossed your way. Love you! XO)

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Alexa: If you could attend any book-related event, what would it be? (You can make up your own!)

Katelyn: Well, if I could make up my own, then this question is so easy! I would want to go to a beach resort (it could be anywhere, just as long as there is a beach, warm weather and possibly some fruity drinks) and I'd invite all sorts of authors and bloggers that I am just dying to meet in person! We would talk about our favorite books, our newest book boyfriends, and all sorts of other stuff and it will basically be the most awesome event of all time!

Alexa: Describe your perfect YA book cover. (You can use other covers for reference).

Lola and the Boy Next Door book cover

Katelyn: I am such a cover snob, it's not even funny. With that being said, I have also read some pretty awesome books with really not-so-attractive covers. I tend to go towards books that are sparkly (the first cover for  Nightshade by Andrea Cremer was GORGEOUS!), have hot guys on the cover (all of Simone Elkeles books are perfect examples of this - also, if the guy happens to have a tattoo and/or body piercing, I am done for) and if the book has all sorts of general cuteness like a fun font, quirky-looking characters, etc (think ALL of Stephanie Perkins' books!), then I will be more likely to read it.

Alexa: Quick! You need to call on three authors to help you save the day. Who are they and what are their superpowers?

Katelyn: Oh my word, what a tough question! I think first and foremost would be Suzanne Collins. She'd be like the ultimate Game Maker, but for the good side! Second would be Veronica Roth. She'd have all the best qualities of the factions she created in her book, most importantly the Dauntless. That may come in handy while kicking some butt! And third would be Sarah Dessen. I have a feeling that if she set her mind to it (not that it would be all that difficult for her), she could create some guys for me that are not only eye candy and possible future boyfriends, but are also very capable at helping me save the world!

LISTY LISTS

Alexa: 3 Favorite Books?

Katelyn: Impossible, I tell you! Impossible!

Easy book cover
The Truth About Forever book cover
Hopeless book cover

But anyways, my 3 favorite books (at the moment, because this changes nearly every day):

1) Easy by Tammara Webber (One book, this book actually, made me a forever fan-girl of Tammara!)
2) The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen (This does not ever change. No matter what, this is ALWAYS a favorite!)
3) Hopeless by Colleen Hoover (A beautifuly, awesome, heartbreaking, but totally worth it story!)

Alexa: Follow up - 3 Songs that Remind You of Your Favorite Books?

Katelyn: Another tough question, but I shall see what I can do!

1) I would pair up Easy with To Be With You by The Honey Trees. But I loved the book so much, that I made up a whole playlist to go with it!
2) I would pair The Truth About Forever with Show Me What I'm Looking For by Carolina Liar. I think Macy and Wes are both sort of lost at the beginning of this book, but by the end they sort of find their way.
3) I would pair Hopeless by Colleen Hoover with Hope for the Hopeless by A Fine Frenzy. I was torn between that song and Demons by Imagine Dragons, but I liked that it had the title in the song name!

Alexa: 3 Things on Your Desk?

Katelyn: Oddly enough, I have:

1) 3 cupcakes - 1 is real, and 2 are really post-it notes made to look like cupcakes!
2) A set of Lincoln Logs... don't ask.
3) A post of a cute kitten, sitting on a beach chair in front of a palm tree... again, don't ask.

Alexa: 3 Books You WILL Read This Year?

Katelyn: I WILL read:

Perks of Being a Wallflower book cover
Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone book cover

The Moon and More book cover

1) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The movie blew me away plus it is one book I have wanted to read for FOREVER!
2) Harry Potter... at least the first book. I am not sure why I have not read any of the Harry Potter series yet but I am always incredibly embarrassed every time I admit it.
3) The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen. When your favorite author comes out with a new book, you have no other choice than to read it.

Alexa: 3 Authors You Wish You Could Write Like?

Katelyn: Now that I am in a creative writing class, and am forced to actually, well, write stuff, this is one question I have thought about a lot!

1) John Green is a GENIUS! His words are humorous, beautiful and just real. I feel like a change person after I read his books (for the better). Who wouldn't want their writing to have the ability to do that?
2) Melina Marchetta. I read Jellicoe Road and my word, it brought out all of the best and worst emotions in me. Her writing is so beautiful and mysterious at the same time. I was amazed by that book.
3) Marni Bates. I like to think I am a funny person, but in reality, there are only two people that can attest to that and maybe only because they are my best friends. However, never even having met Marni Bates, I know she is an absolute blast to be around. I wish I could write with her incredible sense of humor!

FILL IN THE BLANKS

In case you didn't know, I would spend the day with Colt (from Charade by Nyrae Dawn because... uh, yum!). We would go to Frankenmuth (a cute Bavarian town really close to my house) and we would eat cupcakes at the bakery, hang out at one of the festivals that is ALWAYS going on in the city and walk around visiting all of the fun shops, preferably the fudge shop. If we had time, we'd hit up a party hosted by Mackenzie (from Awkward by Marni Bates, because awkward people are always my best friends, and hang out with Will and Alona (from The Ghost and The Goth series by Stacey Kade, because I've always wanted to hang out with a ghost), Lola and Cricket (from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins, because I love them and Lola dresses really cool) and Jessica Darling and Marcus Flutie (from the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty, because Jessica would be fun to talk to and Marcus could play music for us!). At the end of the day, we would say goodnight and he would take me home to my beach house in Hawaii!

So guys, how awesome are Katelyn's answers? She's such a sport for answering ALL the questions, and for giving such awesome answers too! I hope you all got to know a little more about her.

  6. Loved your questions, Alexa! And Katelyn, you should drop everything and read Harry Potter NOW. (Well, after the Love-a-Thon maybe.) The series is incredible! I also loved The Perks! :) And I agree on John Green being a genius. He's one of my favorite authors ever. And the fill in the blanks question was awesome :)

  10. What an awesome interview, Alexa!
Katelyn, I still haven't read Perks either and I've banned myself from seeing the movie until I read it, so I should probably get on that...
