I'm seriously thrilled to be celebrating the release of A Court of Thorns and Roses by the lovely Sarah J. Maas today! I read the novel as soon as I got my hands on a review copy last year, and was thoroughly impressed yet again by the thought + creativity Sarah has exhibited in every single one of her stories. As a gal who's obsessed with fairy tales, the nods Sarah integrates in a work that's all of her own making are smart and on point; the way she weaves in a similar style of storytelling is something to be celebrated.
These were my first thoughts after reading. Here's my full review. |
Rachel of Hello, Chelly & I decided to celebrate the fact that A Court of Thorns and Roses is now out in the world today! Because masks are an important part of the novel, we decided to share our favorite masquerade party (fictional or otherwise), and what we would wear. There was one masquerade that popped immediately into my mind - the masquerade from Romeo & Juliet.
Romeo & Juliet was the first ever Shakespeare play I ever read. And apart from reading the play more than once, I also have seen a few films inspired by it. I've seen Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet quite a few times, so there was no doubt in my mind that I needed to feature a snap or two from it below. And I haven't seen Carlo Carlei's Romeo & Juliet just yet, but I couldn't resist including this perfect snapshot from the party where Romeo & Juliet first met.
As promised, this is what I would choose to wear to a masquerade ball. (Seriously though, someone please throw a fancy masquerade and invite me to it. I want to dress up!) (I am seriously thinking about doing it for a big birthday or a wedding anniversary.) I'm seriously in love with the color palette, the wings, the way it evokes both the night sky and the sea. There are two other reasons I adore this costume: (1) I'd fit right in at the Night Court and (2) Lucien would be my complete opposite, blazing bright at the sun. (What a lovely thought!)

And now I'm off to imagine myself at a masquerade, dressed beautifully and escorted by Lucien (and Chaol) (and Sam) (and Wrath). I highly encourage you to pick up a copy of A Court of Thorns and Roses today. It's beautiful, it's impressive and it will make you swoon and cheer. And if you feel so inclined, share your favorite masquerade party (fictional or otherwise) and what you'd wear in the comments or on Twitter! Don't forget to check out Rachel's post too!
