{Book} Shopping for Celaena (+ Giveaway)

As everyone is well aware, I adore the Throne of Glass series. Sarah J. Maas has created a world that I've fallen in love with, complete with a corrupt political scene, strongly drawn characters and a story filled with twists, turns and magic. I've pretty much shouted my love for the series all over Twitter and the blog (see 1 & 2 for proof!), so it's extra exciting for me to be able to announce that I'm one of the ambassadors for Throne of Glass. What does this mean exactly? Well, I'll be sharing exclusive content and hosting a few giveaways for Throne of Glass and its sequel Crown of Midnight for the next few months! It's going to be a grand ol' time, as I get to basically gush about the series, the characters and Sarah herself.

Before I move on to today's post, why don't you check out my review of Throne of Glass and the Throne of Glass novellas? I've also got the book trailers for Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight! Be sure to stay tuned for exclusive content, fun posts and giveaways as we celebrate the Throne of Glass series!

Last week, I tackled dress shopping with Celaena. Since I adore shopping in general, I thought I'd take Celaena shopping again this week. One of the things I like best about Celaena is that she's a reader, and that's mentioned multiple times in the books. So we're going book shopping today!

Here are five books that I think she'd like a lot:

Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen

a classic - Pride & Prejudice: I really think that this is a classic that will appeal to Celaena. For all that she's a strong, tough assassin, she's also got a vulnerable side. She appears to feel like any other teenaged girl, especially when it comes to romance. I feel like this classic case of misunderstanding and slow burn falling in love will tickle her fancy.

My Life Next Door - Huntley Fitzpatrick

a contemporary novel - My Life Next Door: As with the previous choice, I feel like Celaena would enjoy this one for the romance. Even though she might not necessarily be familiar with all the terms and references to the modern world, the way that Jase and Sam fall in love will definitely appeal to her with its quiet innocence. (my review)

Elemental series - Brigid Kemmerer

a paranormal series - Elemental series: Celaena has encountered her own brand of magic in her story, but I think it would interest her to read about these brothers who have powers tied to the elements. There's nothing quite like indulging in a read filled with a good story, lots of action and very attractive boys. I believe her favorite would probably be Gabriel... (my reviews of Storm, Spark & Spirit)

Grisha trilogy - Leigh Bardugo

a fantasy series - The Grisha: Oddly enough, these fantasy novels are probably the closest Celaena will get to a world that mirrors her own. There's a corrupt person in charge, handsome boys to root for and an adventure unlike any other. I think that Celaena would quite like the lore and mythology behind the tale. (my reviews of Shadow & Bone & Siege & Storm)

Song of the Lioness quartet - Tamora Pierce

a heroine she can relate to - Song of the Lioness quartet: Sometimes, we read books to be able to find characters that we can identify with. There's no doubt in my mind that Celaena would be able to easily relate to Alanna, the heroine of this quartet. They're both strong, stubborn and very brave. They're willing to risk things for the people they love, and to go to any lengths to protect them. Plus, they're smart and slightly wary of magic too. (my series review)

  1. OMG. Celaena would be ALL OVER the Song of the Lioness series! I feel like she and Alanna would get along, even though Alanna would also be totally baffled by her and her girliness. Oh, my God, I'd read this book. Great post, Alexa! Slowwwwly building the tension until people can read Crown of Midnight... AND DIE.

  2. Hmmm... What would Celaena like... hmmm... Oh, she should read Wanderlove! I bet she's never been to a tropical place like Belize. I think she'd enjoy exploring. :) The only books you mentioned that I've read are the Grisha books, which I definitely agree that she would love! :)

  7. The virtual legion of fans who love Throne of Glass never ceases to surprise me. I really do need to pick up this book, simply to see what all the hype is about. Although there's a good chance I'll end up really enjoying it.
And I have no idea yet, since I haven't read the book. Maybe Graceling? Or Crown Duel?

  8. I'd recommend Grave Mercy just because she would definitely connect with the main character and Legend by Marie Lu because it's such a great action packed book!

  9. I like this post, Alexa! I think it's so fun to think about what sort of things Celaena would enjoy. I like that you suggested some contemporary stuff! I would suggest the His Fair Assassin series, or the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop.

  10. I'm totally thinking she would like the Grisha series! One of my favorite things about Celaena is that she's a reader. Love this feature and can't wait to see more gushing (and getting to gush with you!) over this series!!!

  14. I just love how you share your love for this series! You really bring Celaena to life :) Hmm so what does Celaena like to read? I agree with all your choices. I think she'd also enjoy some classics like Dickens. Anything with a strong female lead. Grave Mercy is a great suggestion from Trinity above me^^. I think she'd also like the Study series by Maria V. Snyder and The Hunger Games for sure ;)

  15. Ah, another post I adore! I think Pride and Prejudice is actually SUCH a good choice for Celaena. Lizzie Bennett is, of course, too arrogant with a softer side, something I think Celaena has as well. And of course she would LOVE Shadow and Bone. Because it's fabulous <3 Hmmm, let's see. I also like to think she would love Harry Potter and books like Eon (which I still haven't read yet, but I think Celaena would like kick-ass female MCs). As you can see, I hope C would like the same books I do hahaha. Fun times.
